Mogen Naidoo of UCT has realised that since
gaming
has become more widespread with the advent of online gameplay bringing more
people into the community, it is necessary to establish a gaming society at the
University of Cape Town.
It
is felt that since gaming has a huge fan base that this provides enough reason
to start one on UCT.
Mr.
Mogen Naidoo believes that this would also allow a growth for the gaming
community in Cape Town. This could also lead to branching to other universities
across South Africa, especially those which already have well established clubs,
such as the University of the Witwatersrand and the University of Johannesburg.
It
is hoped that the club will become involved in tournaments,
special events on launch days and basically keep everyone up to date allowing
for more LANS, tournaments and even playing nationally and internationally.
The club aims to cater for all gamers (all games Xbox, PC, PS
etc).
The advantages to this type of club are many, as a recognised club will
received not only financial support from the University, but also support in the
form of venues and technical infrastructure.
Gamers at Wits University and the University of Johannesburg have already
received bursaries as well as university colours for gaming.
