With a global staff of more than 10,000 and a world-class R&D design team, the company’s revenue for 2009 was US$7.5 billion. ASUS ranks among BusinessWeek’s InfoTech 100, and has been on the listing for 12 consecutive years.

The MSSA, is an affiliate of the South African Confederation of Sport and Olympic Committee. And is the National Federation of eSports.
The sponsorship ensures that ASUS is recognised as the headline sponsor of all of MSSA’s Provincial and National Championships for 2010, as well as being the headline sponsor of the MSSA’s 2010 Interschool league.

Through the sponsorship, the MSSA is able to roll-out its provincial LAN championships to more provinces, as well as to initiate the first ever official eSports interschool league in South Africa.

The School League is an exciting development which aims at the creation of new talent and the improvement of the awareness of eSports as an officially recognised sport.

MSSA 2010 Gauteng eSports Championships Results
Written by Ryan van den Bergh
Monday, 05 April 2010 14:02
The MSSA Gauteng eSports Championships were held at Northcliff High School, Johannesburg, on 3 & 4 April 2010.

The school had previously hosted the 2009 MSSA SA National LAN Championships and once again proved why it is such a good venue.

Special thanks must also be extended to Mayhem and The Lair who provided their much needed technical expertise, and were a major contributing factor to making the event the success that it was.

The umpiring was done by: Ryan van den Bergh (Chief Umpire), David Vannucci, and Clint Smythe, who all worked hard to make the event a success.

A total of six titles were catered for, and it was more than encouraging to see the number of scholars that had entered.

CALL OF DUTY 4

With very little surprise, the 2009 South African National Champions, ESWAT from Bloemfontein, romped home to a convincing win. Not only is the ESWAT team highly competitive, but the team remains one of the most friendly and helpful teams to grace South African gaming. After matches, ESWAT took time to help their opposing teams to pass on gaming advice.

DEFENSE OF THE ANCIENTS (DotA)

Club AZN, which consisted of several gamers who were part of the 2009 South African National Champions, immediately took charge of the championship. None of the other teams were able to resist the onslaught of Club AZN who simply demolished all of their opposition. By winning all of their games, Club AZN automatically earn Provincial colours.

FIFA'10 (PS3)

The popular EA game FIFA'10 received a number of entries from both schools and universities. Entries were boosted with the entry of national team player, Xola Magwaza, who had represented South Africa at the 2009 IeSF Challenge in December 2009 in South Korea. The mere presence of Xola, meant that this was a championship that was going to be hotly contested as Xola had no intention of conceeding a point, while the other gamers wanted to prove just how good they were.

In a surprise move, Naeem Williams, scored an impressive 5-2 victory over Xola Magwaza. The victory ensured Naeem of taking the title. Again, Naeem showed just how much Northcliff High School is becoming a dominant force in eSports.

GUITAR HERO 5 (Xbox360)

A new star is born! Kevin Doran who came second at the 2009 MSSA SA National LAN Championships, took the 2010 MSSA Gauteng Championships by storm. Kevin beat all of his opponents to just show how good he really is in order to take the title, Gauteng Provincial Colours, and Gauteng High School Provincial Colours.

We all look forward to see a show-down between Kevin Doran  and 2009 SA National Champion, Mark Dennison.

QUAKE

2007 South African National Champion, Mitchell Tasic made a succesful return to competitive gaming. In 2007, Mitchell won all of his games at the SA National Championships to automatically earn himself National Federation Colours. The 2010 Gauteng Championships was no different as Mitchell waltzed through all of his opposition to win all his games, and to earn the title of Gauteng Champion as well as earn his Gauteng Provincial Colours.

WARCRAFT III: THE FROZEN THRONE

With the inclusion of the WarCraft III title in the 2009 IeSF Challenge, there is a resurgence of interest in this game among competitive gamers.

The majority of gamers participating in WarCraft III were scholars. This indeed bodes well for the future of the game as scholars are without doubt the future of competitive gaming iun South Africa.

The WarCraft III championship proved to be quite exciting, but Stehen Bester emerged as a clear winner, winning all of his games to take the title, Gauteng Provincial Colours, and Gauteng High School Provincial Colours.

Stephen is obviously the man to watch!

Players must please remember that all players that have finished in the top three of a Premier event have earned a place in any National Team Trials for the senior team.

A special vote of thanks must be extended to all who played and made the event to be so utterly enjoyable.
