RESULTS: ASUS 2010 MSSA KwaZulu Natal LAN Championships |

Written by Ryan van den Bergh

Even with having to change the
venue at the last minute, the Weaver Conference Centre proved to be an excellent
venue for the ASUS 2010 MSSA
KwaZulu Natal LAN Championships that were held on the 3rd
and 4th of July 2010. Special thanks must be extended to
Ryan van den Bergh who came down to Durban to Umpire, and of corse to FragLan
for their expert setting up of the network.
The first day of competition
saw CALL OF DUTY 4, and WARCRAFT III being played.
COD 4
There were not the amount of
entries that the MSSA had at either the Gauteng or Free State Championships.
However, all the players enjoyed the championship and gave it all they had.

WARCRAFT III
The WarCraft III section is
growing in leaps and bounds. With every entrant aware that the MSSA will be
sending a team of two players to the 2010 IeSF Grand Final in South Korea in
September 2010, gamers are eager to qualify for trials in order to earn a place
in the team.
The trip to the 2010 IeSF Grand Challenge has all accommodation
and travel paid for.
Not unexpectedly the
competition was fiercely contested by all the participants who knew exactly what
they were playing for - a place in the National Team Trials, and a chance to
earn Protea Colours!
Matthew Putter, a member of
Fatality, demolished all of his competition and thereby won the
championship and earned himself Provincial Colours in the
process.

Gaming resumed on Sunday at
9H00.
The games that were played on
the Sunday were GUITAR HERO, and FIFA.
GUITAR HERO
By now everyone should know
that the GUITAR HERO competition at the ASUS sponsored MSSA provincial LAN
championships are qualifying rounds for the WORLD CYBER GAMES (WCG). SAMSUNG is the sponsor of this part of the
competition and has undertaken to bring up the top two players from each and
every provincial championship to play in the Qualifying Finals to be held in
Sandton on 7 August 2010. MEGAROM
also sponsored the event through the loaning of equipment to ensure that the
event was a success.
After a fiercely contested
championship, the following players emerged as the medal

participate in the event.

PROVINCIAL COLOURS
It is always satisfying to
award provincial colours to deserving gamers. The colours are not awarded
lightly and are awarded only when gamers meet the following criteria, and are
always awarded on residency:
- Win all of their games at a
Provincial Championships, and/or
- Finish in the top 20% of
gamers at both a Provincial and National LAN
Championships.
It therefore gives me great
pleasure to announce that the following gamers have earned their Senior
Provincial Colours at the KwaZulu
Natal Championships:

Of special note, it should be
mentioned that Ryno

Colours in the same event – well done Ryno!
Tyrrell Shaw too makes
history to be the first gamer to earn his Senior Provincial Colours for the
Northern Cape – a worthy achievement indeed!

Dear gamer
Due to the vagaries of life, the venue for the
KZN Championships has had to be changed at the last moment. Changing a
venue at the last moment is certainly not something that anyone ever enjoys
as it proves to be quite stressful for everyone concerned. The MSSA therefore
apologises to everyone who has been inconvenienced.
However, the venue has been changed to
the:
Weaber Conference Centre
10A Palm Gate Crescent
Southgate Business Park
Amanzimtoti
Gamers are reminded that the following will be
played at the venue:
Boardgames: Morabaraba
Checkers
eSports: (Saturday) Call of Duty 4
WarCraft III
Quake 3
(Sunday) CounterStrike 1.6
DotA
FIFA 10
Wargames: Ancients (DBM 3.1)
Gamers are also reminded that GUITAR HERO
players who finish in 1st and 2nd place shall be able to attend the Final
play-offs on 7 August 2010 to be held at Sandton courtesy of SAMSUNG. The
play-offs shall determine who will represent South Africa at the WCG in the USA.
Gamers can also qualify for a place at the
National Team Trials for WarCraft III and for FIFA. As no doubt everybody is now
aware, the MSSA shall be sending a team to officially represent South Africa at
the 2010 IeSF Grand Final in both WarCraft III and FIFA.
All the players who are chosen to represent South
Africa in GUITAR HERO, WARCRAFT III, and FIFA, shall be awarded Protea Colours.

However,
gamers can be assured that the event shall still occur and that the
MSSA will make every effort to ensure that the championship is still
held timeously to allow as many gamers as possible to qualify for
National Team Trials for Guitar Hero™, FIFA™, and WarCraft III™.
The MSSA sincerely wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Should you have any further queries, please contact the writer. Colin Webster President Mind Sports South Africa P O Box 19275 FISHER'S HILL 1408 Tel: 011 828 4994 Fax: 086 672 1911 Cell: 073 593 9451 e-mail:
