In order to further enhance South Africa as a gaming nation, Mind Sports South Africa is bringing in one of the best computer gaming teams in the world from Sweden to play in the African Continental Computer Championships (AfriCon) which will be held on 6th and 7th December 2008 at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. The team is none other than SK Gaming. SK Gaming, although consisting of the top players in e-sports gaming, are renown for their efforts in nurturing upcoming talent and making them into the stars of today. The SK Gaming players attending are:
| Andreas 'bds' Thorstensson | | Robert 'RobbaN' Dahlstroem | Jonathan 'Loda' Berg | | Dennis 'walle' Wallenberg | Tommy 'toMpa' Andersson | | Jimmy 'allen' Allen | Mikael 'hailo' Grinswal | | Marcus 'zet' Sundstroem | Edvin 'KwoM' Börjesson | Abdisamad 'SpawN' Mohamed | Alexander 'Snow' Nystrand | Thus the entry of the teams from SK Gaming into the African Continental Championships for the games of DoTA and COD4 will leave many valuable lessons long after the African Continental Computer Championships are a distant memory. Since the Championships will be played over five rounds to the modified Swiss System, no less than five teams will get the chance to face off against these indomitable Swedes as they battle it out for the position of Champion of Africa. Thus instead of only one team benefiting from being sent to play in an overseas event, Mind Sports South Africa in conjunction with SK Gaming are enabling so many more to learn from the best that Europe has to offer. Should you wish to participate, Teams must fill in the AfriCon registration form before the deadline of 15 November 2008. Late entries shall be accepted on certain conditions up to 1 December 2008. Teams that submit forms before the 15th November 2008 will receive a free AfriCon Polo Shirt. The price per Team per Game is R850.00. Please note that no registrations will be accepted at the event itself. Spectators are R50.00 for over 18s and R20.00 for juniors (This can be paid at the event). The games that will be contested at the championships are: - Call of Duty 4 (COD4), and
- Defense of the Ancients (DoTA).

MSSA versus THE MINISTER OF SPORT and his interference in sport |

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has recently submitted its supplementary submission in its case against the Minister of Sport and Recreation (the Honourable Rev. M. Stofile), and what the MSSA sees as the Minister's interference in sport by selecting teams in place of the accredited National Federation. The submission is important for the following reasons: 1. The supplementary submission includes the internal memo written by Alison Burchell of the Department of Sport and Recreation that was printed in DIE BEELD on 26 September 2008. Such memo appears to have been signed off by the Minister, and the Minister also seems to have hand-written the comment at the bottom of page 1 of such memo, "SRSA must sort out recognition issues & stop selecting teams", and 2. The supplementary submission now lists the South African Sport Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) as a respondent. It is important for all readers to note that even though SASCOC is now a respondent, no liability is attached to SASCOC. The only reason that SASCOC has now been so included is that it is Mind Sport South Africa's view that SASCOC too has been compromised, and its rights and privileges trampled, by the Minister selecting a team without the approval of the National Federation. ROUND NUMBER 2: MSSA versus THE MINISTER OF SPORT |

Written by Ryan van den Bergh

As usual most of the correspondence sent to the Department of Sport and Recreation remains unanswered, with the exception of the correspondence directed to the Deputy Minister, the Hon. Gert Oosthuizen. On the 23rd of September 2008, Mr. Gert Oosthuizen advised the MSSA that," we are in contact with our legal services and we are at all times fully briefed on all developments in this (sic) matter." Yet even still, correspondence sent to the legal department, and the department in general, remained unanswered. To expedite matters, the MSSA decided on a bold initiative. It seemed obvious to the MSSA that the Department of Sport and Recreation (SRSA) was involved in delaying tactics in the hope that the MSSA would back down. But it was not to be..... The MSSA President took the initiative and instructed his attorney Mr. Carl Holliday to obtain an Urgent Application to stop the SRSA's morabaraba team from departing South Africa, and to stop such team from participating in Busan. The Urgent Application only commenced on the 23rd of September 2008 because of the fact that the MSSA was not receiving any answers. Such lack of action on the part of the SRSA forced the MSSA's hand to make such Urgent Application. Immediately Mr. Carl Holliday swung into action, prepared the application and engaged the services of the extremely competent Adv. J. H. A. Saunders of the Pretoria Bar. The Urgent Application was made, and the 131 page submission was presented to court. Interestingly, the Department's legal team failed to appear at court. The Interim Order requested by the Urgent Application was awarded to the MSSA by Judge Makgoba. In such Interim Order, the team selected by the 1st Respondent (the Honourable Rev. M Stofile), is ordered not to depart from the Republic, nor participate in the Traditional Games Festival in Busan, Korea, pending the final hearing of the Review application. Further information may be obtained from Mind Sports South Africa’s attorney, being: Carl Holliday Holliday Attorneys 240 Orient Street Arcadia, Pretoria
